Electrical Fault Finding
Electrical faults are not always visible and their cause may not be obvious. We use systematic inspection and testing to locate the source of a problem before recommending a repair.
Fault finding may be needed when:
- An RCD, RCBO or circuit breaker keeps tripping
- Sockets, lights or circuits stop working
- Part or all of the property loses power
- A fault happens intermittently
- Wiring or cables have been damaged
- A connection is loose or has high resistance
- Lights flicker or electrical accessories become unusually warm
- Previous repair attempts have not resolved the problem
The investigation follows the test results rather than assumptions based on the age or appearance of the installation. Once the fault has been identified, we explain the cause and the work needed to correct it.

Electrical Testing and EICRs
An Electrical Installation Condition Report, known as an EICR, records the condition of a property's fixed electrical installation. The inspection and testing check for damage, deterioration, unsafe wiring and other issues that may require attention.
An installation does not automatically fail an EICR because it is old or was installed to an earlier edition of the wiring regulations. Its condition, safety and test results determine the observations recorded in the report. Testing can also identify faults in an installation that appears to be operating normally.
After the inspection, you receive a report explaining the findings and any classification codes. If remedial work is needed, we will explain the required work and provide a quote.

Consumer unit upgrades
Consumer Unit Upgrades and Replacements
Your consumer unit distributes electricity around the property and contains protective devices for its circuits. We assess the existing unit alongside the condition of the installation, the test results and the level of protection provided.
An older fuse board does not always need to be replaced simply because of its age. We will explain whether it remains serviceable, whether improvements are recommended or whether replacement is required because of its condition, test results or the needs of planned electrical work.
A consumer unit assessment may be useful if:
- Circuits trip repeatedly
- An EICR has identified defects or recommended improvements
- The existing board is damaged or has signs of overheating
- You plan to add new circuits or equipment
- The current unit provides limited RCD protection
- You want individual RCBO protection for each circuit

Our usual specification
Where a new consumer unit is recommended, our usual specification includes individual RCBO protection for circuits and surge protection suited to the installation. Individual RCBOs help limit a fault to the affected circuit, while a surge protection device helps protect the installation and connected equipment from transient overvoltages.
Consumer unit replacements are inspected, tested, certified and notified where required.

Before installation, we check the electrical supply, consumer unit and proposed charger location. We then install a dedicated circuit and set up the charger for safe use. Many home chargers provide up to 7kW of charging power, subject to the property supply, vehicle and charger specification.
